Youth Dance Instruction
ABOUT GROUP CLASSES
Ages 4 - 17
Studio 22 currently offers youth instruction divided into 3 age groups. Students ages 4 - 6 learn fundamentals of music and rhythm in a variety of styles in the Kids Intro to Ballroom Combos class. Youth students, ages 7 - 12, and Teen students, ages 13 - 17 focus on learning and developing individual technique, musicality/timing, and partnering skills in style-specific classes.
Youth Program group classes are 45 minutes long and packed full of information to get students comfortable on the floor. Classes typically start with a warm up that focuses on learning the individual steps and technique, and then transitions to partnering information. All classes are taught in-studio.
Classes are taught on a trimester basis, with trimesters roughly paralleling the academic school year. [The Fall trimester runs September - December, Spring trimester runs January through April, and Summer trimester includes classes May through August.] Classes are taught progressively throughout each term, with each class building on the previous week's information. Different styles are taught each day, and styles change on a trimester basis. Students new to partner dance can start within the first month of any trimester (for the Fall 2020 Trimester, through October 31st).
Expert pros coach, teach, motivate, & encourage students to meet their goals. Classes are typically taught by 2 instructors allow students to easily understand partnering with demonstrations of the leader and follower roles.
Choose Dance Styles
Youth & Teen students can choose from Salsa, Swing, Ballroom, Latin. Styles rotate on a trimester basis to give our students training in a variety of styles. Interested in a style that isn't currently on our schedule? Check out private lessons!
Performance and Competition Opportunities
Set and achieve goals. Learn perseverance and self-motivation. The Studio 22 Youth Program includes a recital at the end of each trimester for students to demonstrate their hard work throughout the term. Additional performance and competition opportunities are offered throughout the year for students who want to take their dancing to the next level. Students interested in performance and/or competition opportunities should talk with their instructor for more information on requirements, options, and pricing. Instructors regularly take students to competitions, both local, national, and international, and Studio 22 also offers performance opportunities at Showcases. (Information will be provided in the first month of the term for recital & costuming fees. Fall 2020 recital date is scheduled for either January 9th or 10th, 2021.)
Plug In to the Studio 22 Community
We're more than a dance studio - we're a community of friends. Give your child the opportunity to meet new friends and get connected in to a community that supports and encourages them every step of the way.
Build confidence, meet new people, burn calories, release stress, get inspired, and transform your life. Come as you are, and we'll have you out on the floor, smashing your goals in no time.
We prioritize the health and safety of our students and team members. Class sizes are limited, and masks are required for all students. We check temperatures at the door with a contactless thermometer, and encourage frequent handwashing/sanitizing for everyone at the studio. Check out our In-Studio group class information for our Health & Safety Protocols and what to know before you arrive. As a reminder, we do not allow class observation.

Youth students are placed according to age at the start of the trimester. If your child has previously had partner dance instruction, please contact us so that we can ensure correct placement. A private lesson may be recommended for evaluation purposes.
Youth private lessons are available in all styles of partner dance for students ages 4 - 17 for students needing to get caught up on missed classes, move at a different pace than group classes, or who are interested in competing. Styles include International Latin, American Rhythm, International Standard, American Smooth, Club Latin (Salsa, Bachata, etc.), Swing, etc., and are $65 per lesson. Please contact the studio at 972.490.0022 for private lesson information & scheduling.
As with adults, we recommend youth wear modest street clothes or athletic attire that they're comfortable moving in. (Students do not need to wear leotards/tights, but something relatively form-fitting is helpful for ensuring correct movement and body alignment.)
Shoes are the most important part of dance attire: choose shoes that support your child's heel and have a leather sole. As your child's dancing progresses, you will want to consider purchasing a pair of dance shoes, which have a flexible suede sole, and are designed give the dancer better control and maintain correct body alignment. Ballroom shoes are available for purchase at Studio 22, and we recommend bring your child in for fittings at least a week before class begins so that we can help you select and/or order the right shoe. (Fittings are offered before 5:00 PM; we recommend allowing up to 30 minutes for each student.)
NOTE: For sanitary and safety reasons, students may not dance barefoot or in socks.
Complete the New Student Registration for each child enrolled before the first day of class, if at all possible.
[NOTE: Each student needs to be registered - by a parent/legal guardian - separately under his/her own name. If you are registering more than one student please make sure to 1) log out completely between registrations, and 2) use a different password for each student. If you are not completely logged out between registrations, or if you use the same email/password with each registration, you will overwrite the previous registration(s).]
Pricing options range from $6.50 - $17.50/class, depending on the package chosen (Trimester, Monthly, or New Student Trial). All payment options are priced per individual student.
Choose your class & enroll. Choose 1 - 4 classes per week, different style each day.
Students should arrive 15 - 20 minutes early on their first visit, and must be accompanied by their parent/legal guardian. (After your child's first visit, we recommend arriving 5 - 10 minutes before class begins to check in.) Please make sure to review and accept the Waiver & Health Declaration before you arrive
Drop Off & Pick Up
Students should be dropped off & picked up by a parent/guardian in the lobby. (Students of driving age may be given permission to arrive unaccompanied.) If you arrive before class begins, please wait with your child until the start of class. Students should be picked up promptly at the end of class - we do not provide after-class childcare. If someone other than the parent/guardian will be picking up your child, you must send written authorization (email is fine) prior to their arrival in order for your child to leave with that individual.
A limited number of merit- and need-based scholarships are available. Please contact us for more details and to apply.
